Terrence Parker is one of those legendary DJs that hails from Detroit who has been in the game for over 30 years and consistently marks his territory with classic house music and an always welcomed back-to-basics approach to production. His expertise is on display via a Defected release out today called “Open Up Your Spirit” featuring newcomer Merachka.
The first mix on the release is the ‘Deeep’ Detroit Heat Remix of the track which builds on an illustrious, symphonic selection of beats and synth notes before dovetailing into a luscious vocal that’s so full of life it could wake the dead. It plays very similarly to FCL’s “It’s You” in the sense that the vocal here is clearly a driving force and one that’s not to be reckoned with turning this into track fit for the lounge or even early hour club play. It should be noted that this release also features the instrumental of this track.
Next is Terrence Parker’s Bangin’ Piano Mix. The title is in no way misleading. This is a banger. Soulful, piano driven, and heavier than the previous mix, this edit claims the straightforward peak hour card as it busts through the gate and bounces and hits with a calculated precision and virtuosic energy. In other words, this is the track that will make the crowd go wild as the bass is bountiful and the piano is smooth and the vibes are just all around catchy.
The final edit in this release is a bit strange and unexpected. The “Merachka’s Kreep Into Your Spirit Remix” edit is a cycling, acid washed trip through the deep and dusty and cosmic. And while it doesn’t have the approachability of the previous versions of “Open Up Your Spirit,” it still has a transcendence about it which communicates a starry eyed appeal as it navigates through your speakers the same way an adventurer traverses through foreign, unknown terrain.
