Preview | POND – “Daisy”

2019 is off to a thrilling start with news that POND, the psych rock tour de force from Perth, Australia, announces the release of their eighth studio album, Tasmania, on March 1, 2019. To give a sneak peek of their album, we share the music video for their newest single, “Daisy.” The music video was directed by Jesse Taylor Smith and shot on the lands of the indigenous tribes of the Kulin and Nyoongar Nations.

“Daisy” is tinged with desperation and anxious commentary foreshadowing a tragic destruction of life as we know it before igniting into a power ballad sparked by indignant protest. POND reports that the inspirations for this title track was conceived by Nick Allbrook envisioning a bitter end of days: “[by] imagining his childhood friends and family in the Kimberly region clad in chains. The title track laconically bubbles with the idea of retreating to Tasmania before we’re all screwed.”

POND’s new album, Tasmania, is majestically radiant. This album shows a sense of growth and maturity for the band as it pivots from an experimental psych rock vibe to a more progressive pop sensibility. Nick Allbrook’s vocals have a unique edge which is enveloped by layers of intricate sound design and production chops from band members Jamie Terry (keys), Jay Watson (drums/vocals), Joseph Ryan (guitar/bass/vocals), with additional mixing and production support from the notable Kevin Parker of Tame Impala.
