Higgins, “You’ve Got”

Coming from New York is this new track on Nervous, “You’ve Got,” by Higgins (who happens to be one half of the duo behind Kaviar Disco Club). As the name KDC would suggest, the focus in Higgins’ personal production style would have some influence from the disco era and classic house music sound. “You’ve Got” has those influences in spades.

Growing from a familiar four-on-the-floor beat supplemented by congas, the journey in “You’ve Got” takes us to a piano-driven disco melody which shuffles like a deck of cards in the hands of a career magician. Combined with a rich, rolling bass and a series of filters in and out, the ebb and flow of the track is akin to the smooth funkiness we’d expect from Oliver $ or Julio Bashmore’s recent LP offering; it’s a reflection of dance music’s history re-appropriated for consumption by a new generation of ravers looking for something warmer and more soulful than a series of artificial drops.
