Earlier this summer, Norwegian artist Analog Monoxide (a.k.a. Stian Høyberg) sent us “Playing Tag,” a song off of his album Songs For The Road from April of this year. Høyberg captures the listener’s attention from the start of the song with an audio loop that features well-crafted sound design. After introducing the glitched-out, breakbeat percussion, Høyberg’s gruff yet subdued and alluring vocals come in. The keys coming in at 2:57 masterfully complete the track: the left hand plays grounding lower notes while the right plays a shimmering melody that sparks the imagination. Before the keys at 2:57, the song’s overall listening experience deserves recognition for the strong vocals, sampling, and percussion; the keys take this song to another level, making what was an already good track into an impressive work of art.
