Each week our contributors shed some light upon their favorite goings-on in the music realm. Here’s what we like to call our “Weekly Round-Up”:

Harry:
Admittedly, I was not at all familiar with Paul Woolford’s production work until I heard the UK Hardcore & Drum ‘n Bass influenced Special Request project he started in the past year or so. I was into some Special Request mixes he put together, and the few vinyl-only releases, and now I find myself exploring his back catalog. If you haven’t heard his new project, there are a few tracks on the project’s Soundcloud page a few on Paul Woolford’s own page, and an influence set: FACT mix #362.

Then this past week I saw a friend of mine was playing a festival in Switzerland with Lee Gamble, which lead to this video, which reminded me of the influences for the Special Request project. Dug a little deeper, found a great mix from Lee on Rinse FM back in April and checked out some of his work on Soundcloud.

Elyse:
I’m really appreciating the Dual EP from Sampha. Most of us probably know Sampha from his collaborations with SBTRKT, but his solo work better highlights his talent. Dual is essentially a small collection of emotive ballads layered with harmonies reminiscent of Boyz II Men-type groups. Despite the bit of nostalgia on my part, each track still feels new and refreshing.

I’m also looking forward to Innervisions’ next release from Michael Gracioppo later this month. Fitting the title of the track, “Creep” is subtly dark and menacing and features slick vocals from Wayne Tennant.

Caleb:
This week my iPod was taken over by a bunch of old Dischord stuff but I did manage to keep coming back to Dark Sky’s “Neon.” It has a really great blend of bass tendencies with a deep house feel. I haven’t listened to much by them but this track is killer. It was also cool to see Moderat back at it and up on NPR with an album stream.

This week I’ve been all about the latest Tom Trago EP on Rush Hour–truly one of the most refreshing releases I’ve heard in months. Here, Trago gives us a sample of what he’s got up his sleeve for his forthcoming full-length on the classic label and it sounds to be nothing but pure magic. “True Friends,” “Two Together” and “Avenido” seamlessly blend elements of Dutch House, UK Bass and Techno together into one solid amalgamation of wistful electronic delight.

Also worth grooving to is the latest installment in Resident Advisor’s podcast series, which comes from Bristol lads Outboxx. The mix is full of promising new originals from the duo, as well as some of the finest tunes of the year thus far. Check it out here.
