Viceroy – Back At the Start

San Francisco’s King of Summer, Viceroy, has carved his own little slice of house music heaven with his sound: summery, laid back, and fine tuned for the brunched out, pool party crowd. But after a string of his phenomenal remixes in the Jet Life series, he has debuted an original track that ramps up his status to an all-new level.

“Back At the Start” is a low BPM groover that absolutely crushes with Miami inspired pads, shimmering guitar strums, and saxophone so sexy that it would make the composer for Miami Vice have an erection. The highlight, however, is undoubtedly the featured vocals from K. Flay which give the track a reggae-ish, 90’s pop vibe that brings artists like Ace of Base and Rock Steady-era No Doubt to mind; the vocals are upbeat, poppy, and definitely meant for cruising with the windows down on a sunny day. Overall, “Back At the Start” is a fun track to get lost in before the harsh realization that snow is still covering much of our sidewalks at the moment. But who doesn’t like to daydream about clear pools, fruity cocktails, and an immediate vicinity populated with attractive individuals…?
