If Monday is over, but you haven’t reached the hump, then it means it’s Too Funk Tuesday! This week’s selection is an eclectic group of nudisco and deep house tracks that will keep you groovin’ throughout the rest of the week. Keep your spirits high (or flowing) and enjoy!
Sam Sparro, “Hands Up”
The first single from the upcoming EP, Quantum Physical Volume 2, Sam Sparro labels this as “a protest song disguised as a party jam” for good reason. Upbeat with a deep, synthy breakdown, “Hands Up” is a dancefloor breaker that is sure to keep the crowd engaged and grooving!
If you don’t know, Romanthony is an OG of dance music – a man that laid the foundation for an endless number of tracks that have graced our presence for years. “Too Long” was rejoiced as part of Daft Punk’s Interstella 5555 and, in order to mix this track and do well, it must be really fricking good. Doctor Dru does just that with minimal touch ups and a deeper, harder vibe; he transcends the old and brings an awesome track into modern day. The breakdown is ill.
Probably my favorite Sting song of all time, Akki and Zev did an awesome mix with a deep house take on a truly classic track. This remix gives off such a different vibe, you don’t even realize it’s “Roxanne” until the vocals drop in. And after that, it takes on a whole new life of its own. Chilled out and highly funky, this is one to jam out to.
Minimal remixes are often the best mixes and Taneli’s take on this awesome Tobtok original is fascinating and danceable. A shoulder shakin’ treat, this edit uses a driving bassline coupled with spaced-out synths to create a mystical feel for any summer night.
DJ Cassidy Feat. Chromeo, “Future Is Mine (Solidisco Remix)”
Last, but not least funky, Solidisco’s remix of “Future is Mine” is in line with the rest of the hard-hitting nudisco treats that he is known for. Energetic and engaging, this song will make you bump your head during its entirety. Add in his notorious sax breakdowns, this is the funk.
