Taste Test: 04

Now that summer is in full swing, there is plenty of time to sift through all the great new tracks that have been popping up. Nothing goes better with summer than house, so I’ll start off with some great house tracks and mixes.

1. Devon Rivers & TWB, “Dope Boy Smile”

The first time I heard the Pharrell samples in “Dope Boy Smile” by Devon Rivers and TWB, I was at a loss for where I had heard them before. After a few more listens (which only made the song better), I realized they were slyly cut from “Aerosol Can” by Major Lazer. It’s fairly standard club fare, but the techy G-house vibes give the track an extra bite.

2. Disclosure ft. Gregory Porter, “Holdin’ On (Gus Pirelli VIP 7″ Disco Mix)”

Next up is a disco remix of the new Disclosure track, ‘Holdin’ On feat. Gregory Porter’ by Gus Pirelli. He has less than a thousand Soundcloud followers but it seems like he’s already an accomplished industry producer. Disclosure are a great modern house duo, but Gus takes some great original material and refreshes it with a sunny disco groove.

3. Shiba San, “DJ Mag Weekly Podcast”

Shiba San not only produces some of the best club ready tracks out there, he also mixes like a veteran. A few weeks ago, DJ Mag’s weekly podcast featured Shiba and he delivered a dark and dirty house mix. He is yet to disappoint. Have a listen below.

4. Drake, “Know Yourself (Jacques Greene Intro Edit)”

For all of the DJs reading, this is a lifesaving DJ tool/edit by none other than Jacques Greene of Drake’s recent hit, “Know Yourself.” It’s still a free download and make sure you have the tune at the ready during your gigs.

5. Elija Blake ft. Dej Loaf, “I Just Wanna (Penthouse Penthouse Remix)”

Last up is a relaxing future R&B remix by Penthouse Penthouse. They add swing and shimmering synths to “I Just Wanna” by Elija Blake. Dreamy arpeggios and smooth Rhodes piano gives the arguably vanilla original new life.
