Taste Test 02

You know the seasons are starting to change when all of your social media is plastered with festival announcements and lineups. Everyone is back home from SXSW and the spring releases are really starting to flow. So first up, we have a fresh remix from Canblaster that goes outside the box to make an overly remixed song refreshing to hear. “No Type” by Rae Sremmurd, the poster boys of Mike Will Made-It’s label Ear Drummers, is undoubtedly a banger, but Canblaster and SIROJ take a simple orchestral cover and spice it up with his signature future vibes.

Continuing on, we’ve got even more Canblaster-y goodness, but with some Lido thrown in. “Rush Hour” is the first single off of Superspeed, their collab EP dropping April 6th on Pelican Fly. Ive only listened to the song a few times, but I’m already beyond hyped to hear the rest of the EP. Lido’s fingerprints are all over the track, from his signature stop time hits to the dramatic dynamic changes, the song is an instant like for any Lido fan. Canblaster does his part as well, balancing Lido’s quirky vibes with his effortlessly smooth production style.

This next tune is far into the future of future bass, so to speak. Antonio Mendez, Aka Lindsay Lowend, and Jonah Baseball, are two D.C natives who have transplanted themselves out to Ann Arbor, Michigan to continue their productions. I can’t dig up too much information on Fear of Sound, the label that appears to be their own creation, but this release is labeled 001, so I’d assume we can expect more from them sometime soon. “Slide In (Yah)” starts out as a tough Lindsay Lowend banger akin to “Ashtray,” but slides into an extended bridge that is reminiscent of his Exercises In Space project.

Lastly, I have a track from Maryland’s own Chris MacClenney of Soulection. The blossoming label just hit 200K followers and released a rich compilation, filled with free goodies. In addition to the free compilation, they also made their entire discography free for two days. After sifting through all of my downloads, I settled on this tune as my favorite off the compilation. It is the perfect mix of familiar house grooves with lush soulful sounds and swingin’ rhythms.
