Up and comer Rachel Wong, better known as 1/2 of the nudisco duo Man & Woman with DC mainstay DJ Provoke, has been gaining a lot of traction with her side project, Eau Claire, with support from Hype Machine and the indie dance community at large. Right on the heels of her ecstatic remix of M.I.A.’s Paper Planes released late last year, she has a new track that’s been lighting up dance music blogs like a Christmas tree.
Her newest edit, a take on Pink Feathers‘ synthpop extravaganza The Feeling’s Gone, features elements that have become part and parcel with an Eau Claire track including powerful piano stabs, dynamic highs and lows, and a minor dose of cool, tropical vibes (in this case supplied by whimsical xylophone and bell samples). In the process, Wong has managed to produce a track that balances out the intensely atmospheric presence of the original vocal track while creating a shimmer that is as groovy as it is endemic.
