If some artist were to listen to Daft Punk’s easy-going track “Something About Us” and think of softening its relaxation even more, you’d think they’re crazy. But that’s just what French duo Cherokee did this past month. I covered some releases by Cherokee back in August that capped off summer with their salty-beach electronic rhythms but now it seems they’re taking their tropically-injected special sauce and spreading throughout broader territory.
Listening to their remix of “Something About Us” gives me nothing less than the thought of them grasping the original, throwing it in the ocean and letting it bob around for a while until the waves rush it back on shore. The result, a remix with heightened enthusiastic tone, and you guessed it, consistent sounds of waves crashing ashore to help balance out the more prompt bass. The remix is at a faster pace, however, keeps a light tone with its wind-blown rhythm and effects.
