This is what happened in dance and electronic music today, Monday, August 24, 2015.
- Forbes released its annual list of highest earning electronic musicians. Calvin Harris, unsurprisingly, topped the list with $66 million dollars which will be identical to the 66 million character rant Seth Troxler will have this week on Twitter.
- Electronica artists Flying Lotus and Shamir both appeared in a new Apple Music commercial which was narrated by Trent Reznor. The video, entitled “Discovery,” is about the beauty of discovering artists, but looks more like an ad for scientology. All in all, it’s a 7 on the creeper music ad scale (on a scale of 1 to Tidal).
- Daft Punk have co-designed a series of action figures based on their Grammy outfits which you can own for roughly $150 dollars. That’s a lot of money for something you’re gonna sell at a yard sale in 2023 for a Chipotle burrito.
- Rolling Stone did a feature on the film, We Are Your Friends, which opens on Friday. What RS didn’t cover, however, is how the feature was actually written. You see – any good journalist starts off slow. Like, 125 words per minute. Then, you work your way up to the sweet spot: 128 words per minute.
- In Manchester, a group of protestors used house music as a weapon to drown out the rally cries of extremist right wing groups. Nothing says victory like the sweet sound of “Sandstorm” by Darude.
