This is what happened in dance music today, Friday, July 17, 2015.
- In case you were ever curious about where your favorite token noises from DJ sets and club environments rank on a list, The Awl went ahead and took care of it for you. Sadly, drunk people screaming “YAAAAS” after 2 rum and Cokes did not make the list (via The Awl).
- Untold Festival, a music event happening in Romania which boasts a stacked line-up of artists like Sasha, John Digweed, Duke Dumont, and Andy C among others, is offering discounted festival tickets to those willing to donate blood at Romanian transfusion centers. This makes it so much easier to know which raves vampire hunters like Blade should attend this summer (via Huffington Post).
- Spotify has developed an algorithm that can decipher your hometown’s soundtrack and you can see the unique soundscape for your city through a music map. Skynet now knows how much you like Los Lonely Boys. There’s nowhere to hide now (via Good Magazine).
- Mexican music collective Mayan Warrior almost got banned from Burning Man this year after pre-emptively releasing their DJ line-up for the upcoming festival. With a line-up that includes Maceo Plex and Axel Boman, the powers that be felt releasing the Mayan Warrior line-up in advance undoes some of the spirit which goes into the festival i.e. it makes it appear more commercial than it actually is. It’s okay though, Burning Man. McDonald’s is also trying to appear less commercial than it actually is, too (via In The Mix).
- Irish DJ and actor Kristian Nairn, best known to the world as Hodor on Game of Thrones, has released his follow up single to Up which premiered last month. Nairn, who has DJ’d with the likes of Calvin Harris and Scissor Sisters, just came off a successful, cosplay oriented tour called “Rave of Thrones.” Coincidentally, these are all facts that will make you look like a nerd if you try to impress attractive people at the club this weekend (via Time).
