This world-famous, wisdomatic, curly-bearded genius recently set a date on his solo project’s debut for later this year. Santa Clause? Paul Vasquez? NO, I’m talking about Alexander Ebert, or better known as the lead singer and songwriter for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. This solo project of Alex’s started during Edward Sharpe’s 2010 tour as he began to write the songs in their crowded bus while on the road. Alex now joins two other band members, Jade and Christian, as they also merged a short distance away to begin solo projects of their own. Alex announced in December that his debut album Alexander was “finished†and, then this past Monday, that the album will be released off of Community Music on March 1st. Alexander will consist of ten tracks that were all strictly bred with no one else’s hands or voice other than his own, he emphasized.
He has let one track loose, “Truthâ€Â, to give his Edward Sharpe-built fans a preview of what’s to come. The track has a much greater personal contribution than his previous works as he’s fire-roasted a bit more emotion and personality into the lyrics and, in addition, he continues the ‘prairie chanting’ vibe that was set in Edward Sharpe. Even with nine less people, I’m excited to hear that he’s kept the same amount and variety of instruments from Edward Sharpe, but I’m contemplating whether this could just be a disguise for his 2nd attempt to become a hip-hop artist – that would make my year even better. To further your imagination of what to expect, he stated that the album was influenced by childish tunes such as Patty Cake and “Zip A Dee Do Daâ€Â, but I’m not sure if that gives my anticipation much of an optimistic view – let’s hope he was inspired by more than just the Fisher Price bells.
Note to those Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros fans, this doesn’t mean that the band is breaking up. They are actually currently preparing their second album for release later this year, stay tuned for that here at Blisspop.
