We don’t always get around to tackling the more mainstream side of electronic music here on Blisspop. Most of the time it’s for good reason: #EDM culture does most of the work already with major releases like the new Jack Ãœ or Axwell x Ingrosso. Sometimes, however, an underdog arises that for some odd reason hasn’t broken into the mainstream dance music bubble despite churning out solid releases on a regular basis. In this context, we introduce The Jane Doze.
Comprised of Jen Mozenter and Claire Schlissel, two former employees of the music industry machine, The Jane Doze’s main focus is making party tracks with an emphasis on positive energy and trying to push themselves as producers with each subsequent release. And while most of their tracks could very well be characterized as big room #EDM, these two attempt to break ground by disassembling tropes of the music industry’s version of electronica and reversing it into a love letter of the cliché with a reflexive twist. Yes – some of it is corny, but that’s kind of the point.
Their first original track in quite some time, the bubblegum banger Lights Go Down, is reminiscent of their trademark tongue-in-cheek attitude featuring unregrettably poppy vocals from CURTAINS, build-ups epic enough to make movies like Saving Private Ryan seem blasé, and an attention to detail that escapes most mainstream #EDM nowadays. Much like what Girl Talk did with Feed the Animals, The Jane Doze does a great at job at re-purposing whatever is popular to spin it into something that’s fresh with a dash of slight sarcasm. And that’s why these ladies deserve to be on your radar.
Listen to Lights Go Down below and pick it up on iTunes if you like it.
