I’m Kevin Capasso, a college student and DJ/Producer living in D.C. I’ve played everything from stages down at SXSW in Austin, Texas to Thirsty Thursday club nights around the District, and just about every gig in-between. I grew up playing and listening to jazz and rock, but my early interest in jazz lead me to hip-hop and deep house, where I could hear my favorite tunes being sampled. My musical tastes have evolved a lot since then, but my posts will be focused around future bass, house, and rap. Some of my biggest influences are: Flying Lotus, Pink Floyd, J Dilla, The Mars Volta, SBTRKT, Lindsay Lowend, Lido, Flume, the list goes on and on… However, today I will be sharing a couple of the tunes that have popped out at me recently, whether its my go to floor-burner or the track I cue up on my iPod right before I fall asleep.
Childhood – Sam Gellaitry
Mr. Gellaitry, the 18 year-old selection member, is just coming off the high of his debut EP, entitled Short Stories. If you haven’t checked it out already, it should be the next orange and white arrow you click after his new track, Childhood. Time after time, I am amazed by the maturity of his productions, especially in their melodic and textural respects. The lead the swoops in at the drop is out of this world, do not sleep on Sam.

Everything Is In Its Right Place (Afefe Iku Re-Edit) – Radiohead
I didn’t mention it earlier, but Radiohead was one of my favorite groups growing up. Afefe Iku combines my childhood nostalgia with with some deep tribal vibes and percussion in his Re-Edit of the essential Kid A album cut.

Justin Jay – Momentum EP
“You Give Me Butterflies” was the first cut off this EP I heard. I was walking home in some nice weather when this song came on. The curiously happy vibes immediately put an extra spring in my step and ever since then, I’ve referred this track as “the walking song.” The rest of the tracks on the EP are not to be missed, they ooze retro house vibes while sliding through your ear drums like modern house cuts. Have a listen for yourself, the EP is out now on Pets Recordings.
