Strwlkr, “After Waiting (feat. DEA)”

Coming off of Massachusetts indie label Lifted Contingency, Los Angeles producer Strwlkr is releasing a spectacle that defies expectations of electronic music. Finding a hallowed ground between IDM and emotionally grandiose bass, “After Waiting” is comfortable living on a plane somewhere beyond the current normalcy of electronica fusing together inspirations that range from jazz to classical to ambient dub.

Without restricting himself to the limitations of genre, Strwlkr accomplishes two things with “After Waiting.” The first is strikingly apparent in the tracks first few bars as it opens to sultry vocals by DEA before dipping into an otherworldly, nocturnal dream. We’re introduced to a realm of possibilities of where we can take electronic music which is both a rare trait and something made very clear as a capability for any modern producer. The second thing he accomplishes is unity through controlled chaos; by choosing to throw out the rulebook, Strwlkr builds his own structure and runs with it with sincerity and confidence. Engaging, unique, and brilliantly orchestrated, Strwlkr dares us to reevaluate our relationship with music.

You can pick it up now via Beatport, iTunes, or Juno.
