When Friend Within exploded on the scene last year with their take on the Wildchild classic “Renegade Master,” they helped usher in a new era of dance music. And while the UK producer has been keeping himself busy by remixing tracks and releasing others, like the notable “Mechanism” with Disclosure, not much has really surfaced from him that harkens back to “The Renegade.” Until today.
His remix of LuvBug’s catchy house-pop tune delivers in scrumptious ways from the unmistakeable UK garage sound that seasons the track to the way he chops up and repurposes Talay Riley’s vocals into a filtered, crooning knife that pierces your ears with its sharp vivaciousness. But just like any true Friend Within track, the real meat here is in the bassline: this one in particular bounces with such ferocity that it becomes an unadulterated groovefest which, for the record, elevates this track from simple setlist filler to a setlist highlight.
