Out of the talent pool of promising newcomers, L.A.’s Jamie Prado has shown a versatility which has kept him on our radar since debuting last year. Having gained notoriety for his sampling choices and emotive production style, the young producer continues to prove his abilities time and time again by creating soundscapes that are warm, inviting, and jacking.
His newest track, “Hit ‘Em Off,” is a spectacular example of Prado’s capabilities as it finds the balance between a tech house groove and more atmospheric sensibilities placing him at a level with the loungier sides of Disclosure, FCL, or Chris Malinchak. The decision to sample an artist like Total elevates the track out of obscurity as well: not necessarily the kind of artist you would expect to be sampled on a tech track, but a clever stroke that ties it into Prado’s aesthetic (having already worked with Suzanne Vega and Brandy vocals in the past). With all of the pieces of the puzzle joined together, “Hit ‘Em Off” is an entrancing, smooth, sunset vibe that could crush on the beaches of Ibiza or a romantic catacomb in the corner of a club. It’s a laid-back slammer. And, like Jamie Prado’s work so far, it has staying power; expect this to be a deep cut that’ll continue to bang the box just as hard 4 years from now.
