We’ve poked fun at David Guetta in the past. For a DJ who built his reputation on his blend of French house music and the disco clubs of yore throughout Europe, his career has certainly taken an odd turn in later years as he plummeted away from the soulful and uplifting into the deep, dark, muddy waters of electro. Thankfully, however, London’s Disciples, known for their infectiously groovy tune “They Don’t Know” from last year, seem to have course corrected the legendary French DJ and brought him back to relevance.
Their collaboration, “No Worries,” is a classic vibe in the most pure sense. Rising up from a heavy kick and coming to fruition on the wings of delicious synth stabs, a beautiful house energy begins to manifest as the vocals begin to reflect in a way reminiscent of Captain Hollywood Project. In many ways, “No Worries” brings Guetta back to this beginnings in the Euro club scene circa the early 1990’s as it unfolds with each subsequent measure. This focus puts the collab into a lovely comfort zone which doesn’t pander to current trends, but rather accepts them and builds up from them. This is a touch which seems like something right out Disciples’ playbook seeing as their sound fits with the current dance music aesthetic, but with a very unique edge derived from the perfect balance of hook and bass line.
