Taking a cue from his recent travels and the perspective gained from rising through the ranks of the independent dance scene, Jamie Prado, hot on the heels of revealing his label Midnight in Paris, is back in 2016. With a new project entitled Return to Indio, no doubt a reference to the positive vibes of Coachella, the Los Angeles soundscaper is forging a new path for himself draped in sun drenched melodies.
The first track, “Tayrona,” is the encapsulation of this newfound self borrowing heavily from the tropical landscape of California’s current dance music scene while capitalizing on the image which has gotten Prado to where he is. Still present is his floating, ambient lifts, but with a textured, worldly approach that has been creeping into his work more and more over the last year or so. It’s definitely a more beachy, Caribbean take on his vibe for sure, but in a way that calls back memories of tracks such as Ace of Base’s “I Saw the Sign”; it’s bubbly and poppy, but not in a typical house-turned-tropical producer kind of sense.
Listen to Return to Indio exclusively through Spotify.
