Tiga, “Don’t Break My Heart (Deetron Remix)”

Deetron is the type of producer that slips in through the cracks and makes you re-think your entire music library. Having crushed the remix game already with stellar turns on The Juan Maclean’s “A Simple Design” and Huxley’s “I Want You,” the Zurich based DJ and tastemaker has just unleashed his flip of Tiga’s current dancefloor anthem “Don’t Break My Heart.”

The original, which oozes seductive rave vibes intertwined with Tiga’s novel, self-aware kitschy style and is barely a month old, did a fantastic job of having us reevaluate our standards of vocal electronic music during a time where vocal house has pierced its way into the mainstream. Deetron’s take on Tiga’s track does the exact same thing, but approaches the topic of re-editing someone else’s work instead. Much like contemporaries such as Paul Woolford and Four Tet, Deetron has established himself as a master of sorts in the field of completely rewriting and manipulating a track into something unique and versatile without disregarding the spirit of the original. His remix of “Don’t Break My Heart” steps into alien territory for Tiga, daring to go further into the void of spaced out techno than Tiga has ever traveled, and arrives on a transcendental plane that feels like Tron meets Kölsch.
