Blisspop Daily News, 8/26/2015

This is your dose of Blisspop Daily News for today, Wednesday, August 26, 2015.

  1. Unknown Mortal Orchestra went straight up mid-2000’s dance rock last night on Conan O’Brien. This means that at least 4 more people are gonna pick up their newest album.
  2. Jamie XX has announced that he’s finally going to release a 12″ of the various remixes we’ve been hearing of “Loud Places” featuring edits by John Talabot and Special Request among others. Whether or not he’s going to make an announcement apologizing for having the most overhyped LP remains to be seen.
  3. Kygo has released a remix of A-Ha’s “Take On Me” giving college aged girls and tribal print clad bros an excuse to say how much they just LOOOOOooooOOoooOooOOOOVE the 80’s.
  4. Deadmau5 went on a Twitter rant dismissing the New York Times video where Justin Bieber discusses the making of “Where Are U Now.” We’ve heard rumors that this rant, however, won’t be nearly as emphatic as the one he has tomorrow about how shitty Pop Tarts are.
  5. Miami based DJ and agent, Michelle Levshem, was featured in an article discussing a monthly party, Bitch Fit, where female DJs have a chance to shine. Too bad her party has nothing on the other 353 days of the year where men have their chance to shine!*

*We believe that house music is, in fact, very much a boys club and that it’s incredibly unfair to women that they have to work twice as hard to get the same visibility as their male counterparts in the DJ game. It’s disgraceful. House music should be inclusive, not exclusive and the fact that women are being forced into making and promoting parties with all female DJs in order to get their due exposure is ridiculous. Female DJs are not a novelty; they are DJs. They are professionals. They deserve the same respect as their male counterparts. Treat them as such.
