The origins of artists’ projects vary, some a concentrated effort to reinvent or innovate earlier work, others a happy accident or a one time session that boils over into something grander. Shadow Child falls into the latter, the result of Dave Spoon trying out some new things in the studio while tapping into early club and rave memories of the 1990’s. Debuting with a single on Dirtybird in 2012, “String Thing” seemed to have come out of nowhere, full of lush chords and weighty bass, a melody that latched onto one’s subconscious.

His strength lies in his original works, often solo, but sometimes in collaboration with artists such as James Talk (on Dirtybird), Tom Flynn (on Deleted Records) and Horx (on Apollo).

He has also started a record label with the Kry Wolf guys, named Food Music, and his album Collected is forthcoming in November. He states it will be the best of his remixes, originals, plus a few new tunes as well.
