Boulder, Colorado based artist Mark Banzhoff is easily the best discovery I have made via SoundCloud this year. Besides performing and composing music, Banzhoff works in digital media and video. Banzhoff earned a Bachelors in Studio Art from the University of South Florida and a Master’s in Fine Arts from University of Colorado at Boulder. Many of Banzhoff’s tracks have an ambient/experimental quality to them, but he also composes synth pop and acoustic centered pieces. I messaged Banzhoff on SoundCloud and he told me that he uses “a [Moog] Little Phatty quite a bit on compositions and I also have a Virus TI and a bunch of drum machines so I like to work with analog and digital methods, usually together in some way.” Banzhoff’s strengths include composition and the analog synth design in his pieces.
