Blisspop resident Lxsx Frxnk’s latest mix was “created while you were sleeping.”
“Awake,” an hour long journey through nocturnal techno hits the vibe spot on. One can imagine Frxnk toiling away in her lab, her beloved one-eyed cat at her side, while the rest of the city sleeps. The proceedings begin slowly with the warm, beautiful tones of Someone Else’s remix of “Fukushima” before ramping up a bit with Alex Plastic’s take on “Ask Yourself” and its tribal percussion — a sound we often hear tastefully placed in Frxnk’s DJ sets. The mix goes on to navigate a bit of acid, low swung funk and leftfield tech house, all of which find a way to sit together nicely. Nothing feels rushed. Finally, we come full circle with the Shaun Reeves and Tale of Us edit of Rainer’s “8000 Feel Up” — another beautiful, emotive track to gently wake the city from its deep sleep.
You can catch Lxsx Frxnk opening for Catz n Dogz and Rory Phillips at U Street Music Hall this Friday (Jan 11). Tickets and info at:Â https://www.ustreetmusichall.com/event/190291-catz-n-dogz-washington.
