Lane 8 and Matthew Dear‘s collaboration on Rise, “Undercover,” is starting to look like it will be one of Anjunadeep’s crown jewels through the end of 2015. The track, marked by its rolling rhythm and Lane 8’s bubbly sensitivity, is picking up speed as house heads continue to discover and fall in love with its graceful melodies and pop-loaded twinkles. Friday saw an official release of “Undercover” as a single with a collection of remixes.
While the Wankelmut and Eekkoo remixes have their own strengths, the remix by Finland’s Yotto stands apart from the whole as it takes a detour into Maceo Plex and Röyksopp-tinged territory. Evolving throughout the piece, oftentimes blending trance and deep house before introducing elements of ambient techno, Yotto’s take on “Undercover” is a powerhouse that lifts and lifts into electronica laced ecstasy made even more euphoric by Yotto’s repurposing of Dear’s vocals. The beauty then comes full circle just before the remix’s final drop: a sentimental flow which culminates into a jaw-dropping, hands in the air finale that rises to the occasion. And the occasion, in this case, is the opportunity to wrap yourself in warm and fuzzy fuzzies.
