In case you didn’t already know, San Francisco’s Dirtybird label is turning ten years old this year and mega-producer Claude Von Stroke is acting as cartographer for a special, celebratory compilation of tracks by some of Dirtybird’s many accomplished artists. One of those tracks is the booty bouncing, house party slammer Function: a track that has been heard all over the world for the better part of 2014, but continued to elude bloggers, ravers, and DJs. Until now.
Composed by legendary Producer/DJ Justin Martin and his frequent collaborator, Ardalan, Function gets the ball rolling with a classic kick and snare combo paired with various tremolos before dropping into a massive, bewitching vocal guaranteed to be a hit in dance clubs. Overall, the track maintains this minimalist approach with attention paid to escalation making the song a simple – yet effective – dancefloor smasher not unlike Cajmere’s Coffee Pot or Steve “Silk” Hurley’s Jack Your Body. This could be a big song in 2015, so make sure you’re on top of it.
The ‘Dirtybird 10’ compilation sees wide release on January 27, but stream Function after the jump.
