It takes a lot of fresh ideas to update a track like Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’. It’s such a standard in the canon of American rock ‘n’ roll that it makes remixing a dutiful task leaving it relatively untouched as no one wants to produce a shoddy representation of such a classic track. Needless to say, this didn’t seem to bother Munich’s MYNGA.
Blasting the track from its roots in 1981 and strapping it to a rocket made from good ol’ fashioned indie dance music, MYNGA has transformed the most epic of epic stadium rock numbers into a certified banger without washing the track of its timeless quality. The remix features a blend of heavy piano, a light bassline, and a bluesy guitar riff that gives the edit a little extra reminder of the Journey’s place in music history. Thankfully, by deciding to leave out the cheese, MYNGA manages to invent a new, contemporary identity for a song that is ingrained in the heart of every person with a dream and an urge to sing at the top of their lungs: a triumph that few have tried and fewer have succeeded at.
