There’s a lot of discussion about the major EDM boom in the United States, whether it has dissipated, whether it just evolved into an overall embrace of the underground as ravers trade in bottle service for warehouse after hours, whether or not the UK house scene had anything to do with it. A topic of discussion that gets overlooked, however, is where Australia fits in all of this. The land down under is home to some of the biggest current talents in dance music right now and some of the bigger heatseeking labels truly showing an appreciation for up-and-coming sounds within the dance music community.
Harris Robotis, a Melbourne producer, has his current single “Work It Out” forthcoming on Sweat It Out‘s Club Sweat label. Already called one of the biggest tracks during the recent music conference in Miami, “Work It Out” is a taste of what’s big and what works in today’s climate. Borrowing heavily from 90’s jacking house, specifically synth stabs and flangered pads which feel like they belong in a Robin S tune, “Work It Out” reaches for the poolside and lands straight in the club. Not quite chill, not quite peak hour, but never straying into the territory of setlist filler, Harris Robotis’ newest tune is satisfying for heads and has the panache to keep ADHD riddled clubgoers at bay offering enough eccentric production choices to keep matters moving, grooving, and bodies sweaty.
