Northern Ireland’s Ejeca, feeling the throes of timeless house arrangements in the U.K. scene, is on the verge of releasing a new EP, Meme, due out at the end of the week on Exploris. The title track, which just debuted over on Thump, is a 130 BPM, old school, throbbing, pulsing tune intended for club play.
Blurring the lines between house and techno, “Meme” feels like a spectacular dub edit from a 90’s promo 12″; it’s familiar and sounds like something we already know and love, but with an added edge to elevate it from standard dance radio fare. Ejeca’s latest is the type of track that has people whirling on the dancefloor thinking, “Have I heard this before? What the hell is this?” It’s designed to be an ear worm from beginning to end, thanks to no small part to its lovely repetition and enigmatic vocal sample, as it slowly burrows into your skull, fills your headspace, and pushes for elation with each “hands-in-the-air” moment at every drop. Designed by and for the rave scene, “Meme” may be the first real dark horse contender for the track of 2016.
Listen to Ejeca’s “Meme” below and make sure to pick up the Meme EP this Friday.
