Born in the the UK and transplanted to Germany, Billy Kenny has been on the rise over the past year. He has been cranking out so many tracks that have seen releases on four40 Records, Simma Black, Black Butter, and now This Ain’t Bristol.
I was a little skeptical at first when I figured this track was some sort of remix of the classic “You Spin Me Round” by Dead or Alive. It does indeed take a vocal sample from that song, but Billy Kenny utilizes it in a unique way and makes it seem a little darker. Although he maintains the upbeat house feel, the melody of the synth stabs makes the track stand out to me. I say this because it almost reminds me of something I would hear in an old progressive house song from like 5 years ago, and I thought that was kind of interesting.
This Ain’t Bristol, based in Germany, put out their first compilation a few months ago. All of the tracks were released for free and it was all solid house music. Now they’re back again with their second compilation featuring artists such as Hostage, Fritz Carlton, Abby Jane, and more. And yes, it is free once again. In fact the only way you can get this track is if you download the whole compilation, so go here to get it!
