Baewatch, “Rave Level 9”

With 2015 ending and 2016 just around the corner, it’s beginning to look like producers will be delving deeper and deeper into flourishes from dance music’s past. Shooting from the hip, Jersey’s Baewatch is embracing 90’s rave culture absurdity with their latest outing, “Rave Level 9,” out now courtesy of Main Course.

Sounding like a warehouse party that’s been slapped over and over again with relentless waves of bass and big room house, “Rave Level 9” is the crazy best friend who shows up with Kandi up to his elbows and a travel size bottle of Maker’s Mark in his boot. And thanks to Baewatch’s G-house influenced style, the track has an affable quality that gives it an appropriate level of grit while keeping the mood loosey goosey. It’s heavy and it’s brutal, but the peak hour edit knows its audience: anyone still dancing in the club at 3 AM delirious from a combination of exhaustion and intermittent rushes of adrenaline.
