Review | Duke & Jones – “Synthetic”

Duke & Jones is a duo based in Manchester known for creating dynamic aural experiences that range through a variety of electronic subgenres. “Synthetic” is the newest addition to this group’s stimulating portfolio.

Beginning with and continually punctuated by a blissfully manic minor key arpeggio, “Synthetic” slowly darkens as it builds. The atmosphere creates the sensation of a barely contained public panic attack. The nervous energy sits deep within the depths to create an almost false emotional feel until the climax hits. Finally, the energy then resolves into a calmer, less frenetic melody.

The velvet sound design’s deceptively chill tone pulls the listener through a beautiful sonic journey. To summarize, this is a gorgeous track by Duke & Jones that sits just left of the norm that reveals a bit more complexity with each play.
