Blisspop Disco Fest – Artist Interview | Wayne Davis

With over 40 years of experience behind the decks, having performed at legendary venues such as Odell’s, Club Fantasy, Cignel, and The Paradox, Wayne Davis is no stranger to the world of dance and electronic music. With the Blisspop Disco Fest coming up, we managed to ask the Baltimore legend a couple of questions about his early listening, and what fuels him as a DJ.

What did your musical listening consist of growing up?

Growing up in the 60’s I listened to mostly R&B, and in the 70’s my listening expanded to most genres: rock, New Age, heavy metal, folk, jazz, easy listening, blues and dance music, which evolved into all the different divisions of the dance music that we have today.

What do you enjoy most about being a DJ?

The energy and the feeling when you really connect with the dance floor and its occupants – the dancers!

The word “Disco” can mean different things to different people. What does it mean to you?

It makes me think of the start of the era when music was created for the Discotheque and Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta.

What is it that makes you continue playing music for the world?

Music is a part of me. It’s in my soul and the enjoyment of sharing my vibe with the dancers makes us both happy.

What can we expect during your performance with Lisa Moody at the Blisspop Disco Fest?

The best we have to offer in the time we are given.

Catch Wayne Davis playing alongside Lisa Moody this Friday night at the 9:30 Club for Blisspop Disco Fest with The Black Madonna, Josey Rebelle, and Amy Douglas. Tickets can be purchased here.
