This is what happened in dance music today, Monday, July 20, 2015.

  1. Dieter Moebius, an electronic music pioneer from the 70’s and member of the Krautrock scene, passed away at the age of 71. While his genius might not be a household name here in the U.S., he helped pave the way for IDM and worked with Brian Eno and a number of other prolific artists from the era. Somewhere out there, a nerdy DJ is coddling a 12″ Cluster record as he cries out to the heavens (via Digital Spy).
  2. Josh Greenberg, the co-founder of music streaming service Grooveshark, was found dead today at the age of 28. Rumor has it the Spotify/Tidal Illuminati are to blame (via Newsweek).

“First Greenberg. Then those Pandora fuckers.”
  3. DJ/producer Felix Jaehn was the first German artist in over 20 years to top the Billboard charts in the U.S. with his remix of the pop song, “Cheerleader,” by Omi. The real shame is that DJs in the U.S. are gonna have to deal with basic white girls who can’t pronounce his name when they try to request the song in clubs (via DW).
  4. In a recent interview, Paris Hilton when on the record saying she thinks she’s “proven her haters wrong.” Sadly, she has. With undisclosed sums of money (via Your EDM).

What do you love, Paris? The sync button?
  5. 80’s new wave band Duran Duran suggested over the weekend that Daft Punk, Sam Smith, or Kanye West should all be contenders for the next James Bond theme song. And while all of those are interesting choices, they clearly forgot the most obvious choice: Kygo (via Diffuser).
