Wilfred Giroux – Stronger EP

There is definitely something fresh in the air, and it comes in human form and by the name of Wilfred Giroux. The 22-year-old London-based House Producer – real name Joshua Mooney – has been making some serious waves in the UK underground party scene of late. Firstly with his white label release of “American Boy” by Estelle, followed by “You Don’t Know What Love Is” by Amy Winehouse and “You Know You Like It” by AlunaGeorge.

First single, “Stronger,” is a remix of Corrine Bailey Rae’s “Put Your Records On,” which she personally approved and apparently loves, was officially released today. “Stronger” has had over 350,000 plays on SoundCloud in one month alone and was #1 on Hype Machine earlier this year. Wilfred Giroux has been praised by various DJ’s, including Producer/DJ Skream & Benga, who set the young producer up with a guest mix on his BBC Radio 1 show yesterday.

The garage tinged deep house tracks are beautifully crafted, with soulful vocals that build cleverly and are reminiscent of slowed down, old school bassline house. “U Make Me” which was released with “Stronger,” as a sort of B Side, also brings the same addictive brilliance that he killed in “Stronger.”

Funnily enough, it feels as if Brummie-bred Wilfred Giroux’s simple, crystal clear production could only have come out of that breed of pre-teens playing trial and error on Fruity Loops. His music brings a vibe similar to that of young brothers Disclosure, in its brave, party-proud style.

With release track “Stronger,” the choppy lyrics are brilliantly put together particularly when Corinne sings, “Try any longer, try any longer, try any longer!,” when the record hits its peak. It’s the type of deep house that hits the soul and the feet with a nice dollop of attitude.

Released through new Wolverhampton based record label Polkador, Wilfred Giroux’s debut remix EP is soon to follow on the 21st of April. With such a stellar debut release, festival dates confirmed and his first London show coming up, it’s fair to say Wilfred Giroux is in for an exceptionally good ride in 2014, and so are we. Bravo Wilfred Giroux.
